Myth Busters

It is commonly assumed that, even for building projects of less than $1,000,000 value, it is safer for an owner to give his business to a larger contracting firm. Let us dispell some of those myths here:

Myth #1: It is to the owner's advantage to hire a larger contractor because they can provide better supervision, quality control, and management.

Myth Busted: False- quite the contrary. ECC can, in most cases, provide better supervision and project mangement by Mr. Waldram who has 26 years of Commercial Construction experience. Rarely if ever does a larger contractor assign day-to-day supervision and management to a veteran superintendant/project manager for projects under $1 million dollars. Most often a junior (green) superintendant/project manager team is assigned.

Myth #2: ECC cannot provide the financial stability and risk aversion than an owner would want in case of unforeseen problems with the project.

Myth Busted: False- ECC can offer Performance and Payment bonds that provide a guarantee to the owner. If something should go amiss for any reason, the bonding company is there to step in and take full responsibility for completing the project and paying all costs incurred. ECC carries general liability insurance of $2 million dollars aggregate and $1 million dollars single occurrence as well as worker's compensation insurance. Certificates of insurance are provided to the owner as a standard procedure as proof of insurance. In addition, Mr. Waldram has attended numerous satety training seminars and has completed OSHA 30 hour training within the last 5 years.

Myth #3: A larger contractor can provide better pricing because they have much higher overhead costs.

Myth Busted: False- OK, no one really believes this- it's just here to prove a point. Why do owners continue to pay much more than they need to by using a larger contractor for smaller projects?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
